March 2018: First Trip of the Year

Who says Panaitan Island is all about two of the best waves in Indonesia being One Palm and Apocalypse? How about 8 days of chest to overhead waves over Easter, surfing a variety of fun rights and lefts? Well that’s what the boys on Trip 1 of 2018 got. Day 1 set the seen as we motored into the bay and a good nor-wester so captain Manto had us over to the far side of the bay and the rights. The boys were straight into fun Indicators from the get go and all the travel from Oz was soon washed away. Then the daily routine was set for the next 5 days: surf the rights at Indicators and Illusions, fish (a big GT and Spanish Mackerel being the highlights) rinse and repeat. It only changed on the arvo of day 5 when 2 of the boys disappeared fishing in the fast boat, only to come raving about surfing Rangers by themselves for hours. So, on day 6 we motored over to Ranger Station and anchored up in that beautiful bay for a day surfing Rangers left, finishing with beers on the wharf at sunset. Day 7 dawned with more good news as the sou-easter was finally up so it was back around into the bay to finish off the trip with 2 days of Napalms and Inside Lefts. By the time we packed up and headed home, we had surfed every day, with only 2 or 3 guys in the water at a time and Pete had scored more “champagne cream puff rides” (don’t ask) than ever with the odd double fist pump claim thrown in. Cheers to the boys of Trip 1 for an awesome start to 2018: Josh and Graeme (returning Just Dreaming guests), father and son duo Steve and Paul and the one and only Pete, the recognised fisherman of the trip who we are still waiting on to hook a fish…

The 2018 season is just about here...

So it has been one very wet, proper, rainy season here in Indonesia. Good news we think as everyone is now talking up a proper season of waves to come as peak season approaches.

Even during the rainy off season, the Just Dreaming crew has been busy. The big boat was dry docked and put through her regular yearly maintenance clean up. We also took the opportunity to take the fast boat Sweet Dream out of the water and give her a once over. She's looking real sweet now with new fiberglass, paint and tuned up twin 90Hp Suzukis.

The first charter of the 2018 season is due out over Easter and it’s a busy start to the year with 3 back to back charters hoping to score some early season, light wind action. For anybody wanting to get in on the action, check out the booking calendar on the website and drop us an email at info@justdreaming.surf

24th May - 2nd June 2017

Indonesia has been pumping over the last 2 weeks and of course our little slice of paradise was in on the action. Three nice swells in the space of 10 days poured into the island making it a really consistent trip with the boys clocking up plenty of time in the water, a few lads were averaging 6-8 hrs a day. We were straight into it on the very first day with the first swell for the trip peaking that morning, no time for easing your way into it and the legends from South Africa took it all in their stride jumping straight over board and racing for the line up. There was a couple of afternoons with not a drop of water out of place, the boys were lapping it up getting barrelled pretty much every wave then hooting one of their mates into the barrel on the next one. Late one afternoon we seen an unbelievable barrel get made at the point, as the wave wrapped around the point we all thought Kimbo was about to be obliviated as he was super deep, he pulled up into a 6’+ seriously long slabbing keg, the wave sucked him back and up over the foamball set his line and continued to get barrelled all the way down the point. The crew were gob smacked, we ended up partying that night, getting stuck into the duty free and having a hell time, pretty sure we wouldn’t of got as loose as we did if we had not of witnessed that wave. Was such a good vibe on the boat the entire time, with a good bunch of boys and pumping waves you can't possibly not have the time of ya life!
