28th June - 27th July 2016

Hello again my Just Dreaming friends, John Olsen back at the helm reporting from West Java. Before setting sail conditions looked grim and we were told that the night before the weather was horrendous so a belting on the way out was to be expected but an hour into the Sunda Strait we purred all the way to perfect waves and perfect conditions for the entire trip.

The boat was filled with plenty of old stories and laughter until we rolled over some serious swells once we got into open ocean and the boat fell silent filled with anticipation (apart from Matto spewing his guts up) and shitting themselves really haha. All that nervous excitement was gone once we saw lefts reeling for days down the point and it was 100% froth mode and the boys were straight out there pulling in to drainpipes. We were lucky that the tides and winds were in our favour making for perfect conditions giving us the opportunity to surf most of the waves on the Island and pretty pumping too. The last night was spent sitting around a fire on a remote island reminiscing about the barrels we had drinking cans of Anker and bbqing the 10kg barracuda and a couple of 4kg GT that we snagged on the troll.

We were blessed with good friends Buzz and his trusty friends from Hawaii. We were also blessed with pumping swell and good winds for the Island. All the waves turned on with magic everywhere!! Everyone pushed their own boundaries and as always the Panaitan law of good vibes in and out of the water ruled.

We we lucky enough to share some waves with one of Indonesia's most talented surfers and all round nice guy sir Bol and his friend Nat who got soooo barrelled there bones were shaking. As well we were honoured with Panaitan Hellman Timmy Turner who showed the lads how to do it when the going got tough thanks Timmy ya legend. We even saved 5 French guys who had to spend one night on the island after the Indo fishing boat they rented snapped in half and they lost everything.

Most of all I would like to thank my new my friends who we all shared the island and great company: Doctor Mark, Apoc Mark, Barry, Lissie, Jimmy, and of course the worlds number one switch footer sir Buzz.

Well this trip started well with one of the guests getting caught taking a photo at immigration at Jakarta airport and getting deported back to Aus, luckily I had some cash in my pocket and payed the guy off - that's when I new this trip was going to be a good one.
Once we set sail cold beers in everyone's hands all was left behind and the start of 8 days of pumping waves, cold beers, fish, good food and a lot of laughs with no crowds. The vibe on the boat was second to none. Everyone got so surfed out and that's what it's all about.
